History of PBK Bank (1906 - Current)

On
April 21, 1906 , Peoples Bank of Hustonville was
incorporated by J.W. Hoskins, George D. Weatherford, D.M. Lipps,
W.R. King, James Frye, John Dinwiddie, J.C. Burks, W.C.
Greening, Joseph H. Coffey, E.P. Carpenter, S.M. Helm, G.W.
Cunningham, W.M. Myers, T.F. Murphy, and J.C. Coulter. Capital
Stock was $25,000 to be divided into two hundred fifty shares.
There were 77 shareholders. On
May 19, 1906 , the first shareholders elected as
Directors were W.M. Myers, S.M. Helm, J.C. Barker, J.J.
McKinney, T.F. Murphy, Emmit McCormick, S.M. Owens, Joseph
Coffey, W.A. Spragens, J.C. Coulter, and E.P. Carpenter. W.M.
Myers was elected President serving until 1919.
A building lot was purchased from
Weatherford Hotel Co. for $150.00. The contract for building the
bank was given to Fayette Brick and Supply for $3500.00. The
actual cost was $3835.46. National Exchange Bank of
Lexington furnished the safe and office
fixtures for the sum of $1550.00. The bank opened for business
on
September 3, 1906 . On
December 28, 1907 Roscoe
Murphy was appointed Assistant Cashier at a salary of $25.00 per
month.
In 1919, Mr. W.O. Sneed was
elected President and served until 1925 when J.W. Hoskins took
over the reins. Hoskins served until 1932. On
January 12, 1932 , Edgar Murphy was elected President
of the bank, serving 51 years until January 1983. Floyd Peyton
was then named President serving until his death on
January 31, 1999 . At the
time, Jack D. Johnson became President and still assumes the
office. And on
January 8, 1929 , a loan
committee was formed to approve all loans exceeding $500 or
more.
In January 1972, the Board of
Directors accepted a bid to build an addition to the office in
Hustonville. this facility served until the present Hustonville
site was built in 1989. In September 1977, the Board voted to
file for a full-service branch in Stanford. The office opened
for business in a temporary structure on Hwy 27 South on March 12, 1979 . the present building was
completed and opened on
July 30, 1979 . Peoples Bank of Hustonville then
employed 17 personnel.
To provide more space for our
growing customer base, a third location of Peoples Bank of
Hustonville was opened in September 1993 at
120 Frontier Boulevard
in Wilderness Estates. With this expansion, all bookkeeping
functions moved to Stanford. In September 1996, the Board of
Directors voted to change the name from Peoples Bank of
Hustonville to Peoples Bank of
Kentucky in order to better
represent our area of service.
Our fourth branch was opened in
Junction City on February 14, 1997 . It was located in
a mobile unit until an office was erected. Our new building was
completed in September 1997 at 54 Henry
Street
just off Hwy 127. We opened a fifth branch in
Danville in October of 1998 in a
mobile unit in Southland
Plaza . We moved into our new office
on August 29, 1999
. This branch was a new approach to area banking. Our
Danville office was the first in the
State of Kentucky
to have the RTS (remote teller system). This innovative
technology allows tellers to be secured in a separate area with
monitors and telephones in the lobby for customers. We also
employed greeters to meet customers, explain new services, and
serve popcorn and soft drinks from our refreshment bar. Customer
Service Specialist are always available in the lobby.
A loan production office opened
in
Richmond in May of 1999 before
becoming a full-service location in January 2000. After the
Richmond expansion in 1999, our name
was shortened to PBK Bank because a Peoples Bank already
operated in
Madison
County .
The 2001 Board of Directors
including Robert W. Folger, E. Stanley Burris, John Elliott,
Jr., Doris Peyton, Rufus Shooopman, William Peyton, Dr. John
Price, Bryan Cooper, Gary Johnson, Dickie Cooper, E.C. Lay, and
President and Chairman of the Board Jack D. Johnson. Robert W.
Folger was Chief Executive Officer, serving since January 1982.
In 2001, PBK consisted of six
full-service offices and employed a work force of eighty-two
full- and part-time employees plus seven greeters. The Richmond
Office closed in September 2002 to better focus on local
markets. On April 10,
2002 , Bruce Edgington was named CEO and the
retirement of Robert Folger was announced. In 2002, Jamie Gay
and Dr. Chuck Keiser were elected to the Board of Directors. Dr.
Keiser later resigned on July 12, 2005 . As f March 1, 2005 , assets of PBK Bank totaled 97 million.
November 6, 2006 PBK Bank opened its
sixth branch with a full service branch in Mount Vernon. Open house to
celebrate the opening of the Mount Vernon branch was held December 10th,
2006.
