The
Community Leadership Award was given to Dale Kilhman,
Angela Murphy, Paula Becraft, Mae Renner and Jeff Joiner
for their help in driving the community investment
process and making the Day of Caring possible.
Greg Caudill announced that the Volunteer of the Year
Award would be renamed in honor of the late John Stigall,
chairman of the local industrial foundation.
Stigall, who died in February, was active in United
Way's campaigns and had worked extensively on the Gulf
Coast in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
Caudill read a letter from a woman describing the impact
Stigall had on the Gulf Port, Miss., community that he
frequently visited and the void left by his passing.
Taylor then presented the Volunteer of the Year Award to
Joye Hunt, chief financial officer at PBK Bank, calling
her "a mighty force for good with a gentle touch."
Hunt served on Heart of Kentucky United Way's Community
Investments Steering Panel, chairs a county campaign
committee, served on the board of directors, was a
leader for the Day of Caring, and participated in the
Lincoln County Dinner and a Show.
Hunt, who said she knew of Stigall through his
reputation for service, said she was moved by the award.
"It
is a wonderful honor, especially to look around the room
and see so many other people deserving of the award,"
she said. |
